Hall Government Requirements
If you are not applying but are planning on voting with your Hall Government, here are some details you should know:
This year, we are initiating a paperless election! This means that we are encouraging all quorum members to bring their laptops to the election quorums to refer to each candidates bid.
All bids will be posted online at sjsuRHA.org
IMPORTANT!!!- All voting members need to read all bids in order to vote. If you did not read all candidates bids for a particular position, we are asking you to please abstain when voting for that postion. This is not fair for the candidates and provides an unbalanced vote outcome.
Each building should have all of their representation spots filled (ex: CVB-15 voting members, CVC-6 voting members, Joe West-7 voting members, Bricks-8 voting members) All comments made during elections must be bid and speech related!!! This means that you should not be asking questions or making comments that do not directly relate to the candidates presentation/bid (ex: “if you were a candy bar, what would you be?” is not an acceptable question) Please note that the March 17th quorum could last longer than usual.
Once voting for a specific position begins, people may not enter or exit the room until the entire positional voting has finished.
More details on election procedures can be found in the attached document.
Bids:
As stated in the RHA Constitution, written bids should be a statement declaring their reasons for desiring the position they are running for and their goals for the upcoming year.
- The bid shall be no longer than 8 pages (which is made up of a cover page, letters of recommendations, pictures, time commitments, resume, text, etc….basically it doesn’t have to be 8 pages of just text) At least 1 letter of recommendation Include a list of time commitments Resume Bids will be posted online at sjsuRHA.org for quorum members to download and read.
Presentation:
Attached is a detailed document explaining the exact procedure that the elections will follow.
The candidate should be prepared to give a 5 min presentation and a 5 min question and answer session Any candidate needing technical assistance for their presentation must contact me (jcooper@housing.sjsu.edu) 3 days prior to presentation
This is a lot of information, but we are here to help you! If you have any questions or concerns please ask a current RHA Executive Board Member, email myself at jcooper@housing.sjsu.edu, call me at (916) 792-4760, or stop by one of our office hours (posted online).
